Please note that as of autumn 2003 this site is no longer being updated. I no longer have the spare time to give it the attention it deserves. Hopefully, this will not be a permanent state of affairs; my hope is that I can return to doing updates in due course, but for now, it must rest as it is. Most of the stuff on cannabis itself should stay valid for a long while, but the news pages, and the Amsterdam coffeeshop guide, may gradually go out of date.

Note also that I will unfortunately not be able to answer any detailed queries about the site by e-mail.

This site is divided into the following areas:

This site is designed for smokers and non-smokers, pro-prohibition and pro-legalisation readers alike. It is designed to cut through the fog of smoke that often obscures rational debate about the cannabis issue, whether that fog be produced by the puffing of bongs at 3:00 am or drifts over from the bonfires of the prohibitionists, stoking the fires of ignorance in pursuit of their particular ends.

My aim is to lay out on this site my own experiences with cannabis, the highs and the lows. I am pro-decriminalisation, this is true - but if any sensible and rational conclusion is to come to the current debate about cannabis, all sides of the debate need to be seen. So read this site and then go off to a prohibitionist site and make your own mind up. That's what free speech and thought is all about.

This site also has an extensive index and list of links to other sites, which you can view by clicking on this heading.

These pages have their own sub-menu: click on the heading to view it.

More on the possibilities for coffeeshops in the UK; some great advice, and one person's recent experience.

A brief response to the UK Government's plans to downgrade cannabis from a class B to a class C drug, announced July 2002.

Well-written, interesting and (for a mainstream newspaper) extraordinarily non-judgmental article from The Scotsman on one entrepreneur's plans to open coffeeshops in the UK along the lines of the Dutch model.

An exchange of views between myself and another pro-legalisation campaigner, from an independent magazine, provoked by a response to UK politician Ann Widdecombe's call for a "zero tolerance" approach to cannabis possession.

A discussion of cannabis use and prohibition alongside some German political philosophy. (Warning: you may find some of this heavy going!)

A review and some highlights from the 2001 anthology edited by the UK's most famous dope peddler.

Take a trip to the Netherlands and experience the reality of cannabis decriminalisation. Read about my own choices of coffeeshop - now with three provincial towns covered as well as Amsterdam - add your own review!

Follow the quiz to test the quality of the stuff you've been smoking all day!

A not-very-serious guide to the famous smokers of history.

Although my views on cannabis use should be pretty obvious, it unfortunately remains necessary to point out that cannabis use and/or possession remains a crime in almost all countries of the world. This page is therefore intended as informational only. It is not intended to advocate anyone's breaking of the law.

COPYRIGHT INFO. One thing a lot of people forget, as in the recent squabble over Napster, is that there are two sides to copyright. Gaining access to information, and being able to subsequently pass it on, for free is one - pretending that information has been produced by yourself, when actually it's someone else's, is another. I am not interested in restricting access to the information on this site so as far as I'm concerned, reproduce it at your leisure. However, if you do, please credit me as the author and place a link back to this site on yours. It's only polite, don't you think?
