As from the the beginning of 1999, Commonword's monthly performance poetry event enters a new phase.
The format will open up into the
Open Mic Night
The stage will be open to all comers, be you first time writers/ reader to experienced poet trying out new stuff
(or even old stuff in a new way). There will be a recepitive crowd so feel free to come along.
Poetry Slam
The Slam, favourite with the Manchester writers, stays on.
The 'Poetry Slam' is an American idea which is taking off over here
now! Basically it's a friendly competition in which anyone who wants to,
can read out some of their poetry to an assembled audience.
The competitors are then voted on by members of the audience. In the end someone wins but
the main object is to have a good time, listen to the poetry and find out
what's happening on the swinging literary scene in Manchester these days...
Cabaret Night
Here we open the door of performance wide open. We are looking for poets, singers musicians, comedians(funny),
actors, whatever, to come and perform on the night. It should, at the very least, be 'interesting'.
The 'Poetry in Performance' events above will be monthly, at
The Frog & Bucket at 102 Oldham Street, Manchester on the second Wednesday
of each month.
Venue: Frog & Bucket, Oldham Street, Manchester.
Time: 8pm til late
Price: £3.00 / £2.00
Format: 5 minutes for your stuff on the mike.
For the Poetry Slam, judges (chosen from the audience) score, and the winners get a prize!
