Workshops

Commonword runs a number of free regular writing workshops to provide a stimulating and supportive atmosphere for writers of all ages and abilities.
People are encouraged to bring along their own work to discuss, be it poetry, short stories, novels or plays.

Identity

The Identity workshop is for Asian, African and Caribbean writers. It meets at the Commonword offices every Wednesday between 6.30 and 8.30pm.
The workshop mainly provides constructive feedback on/ over poetry, short stories and novels.
From time to time part of the workshop, is dedicated to the work of contemporary writers over a number of months.

Womanswrite

The Womanswrite workshop meets every Tuesday morning, 11am-1pm at the Commonword offices.

All Women Welcome

If you are interested in writing, come along to Womanswrite for encouragement and stimulation. Women writers of all levels of experience are welcome.

There are open sessions as well as themes which form the basis of discussions for the group. Sometimes guest writers are invited to talk about their experiences, or the group may use practical writing exercises to stimulate writing in the meeting. Writers are given the opportunity to read their own work and have it discussed by the group, ensuring that everyone receives constructive feedback and advice about their writing.

Northern Gay Writers

This workshop meets every second Saturday, from 2pm - 4pm.

This Workshop is for lesbian and gay writers. It has been running for several years. We meet on the second Saturday of each month.

The workshops are often based around a specific theme but there are also 'Open Sessions'. Any lesbians or gay men are welcome to come and read out their work or just listen to other peoples.

The Monday Night Group

This workshop meets every Monday Night from 7.30pm-9.30pm at the Commonword Offices.

This group is open to everyone and covers most forms of writing. The Monday Night Group is probably the most active of the Commonword workshops.
