| Leeds Centre For Indian Music and
Dance came into existence in 1997 after two years of
deliberations by the leading organisations and
individuals involved in South Asian music and dance in
U.K. The key players in these deliberations were: Leeds College Of Music, Pandit Ram Sahai Sangit Vidayala (London), Kalawati (national organisation of musicians of South Asian music), Arts Council Of England, Yorkshire & Humberside Arts, Leeds City Council, Unniti (Yorkshire and Humberside South Asian dance agency), Yorkshire Dance Centre and Asian Music Circuit (London). The centre is incorporated as a company Limited by Guarantee with 5 board members offering financial, managerial and artistic policy skills. The centre will be expanding its board in the near future. An artistic director have been seconded from the Leeds College Of Music for an initial period of two years on part time basis and a project manager/administrator is in post. The Centre has organised concerts, workshops, recording project and a week long summer school in Hindustani Music and Dance. The Centre has been awarded £100,000 by A4E Lottery for specific projects for two years. The Centre is based at Yorkshire Dance Centre, 3 St Peters Buildings, St Peters Square, Leeds LS9 8AH.
