Cuba Hurricane Appeal - fund-raising event  devastation in Holguín

Lloyds pub, Wilbraham Rd, Chorlton on Thursday 6 November 2008, 8.30-11.00

For Cuba hurricane relief  Why? Cuba has experienced the 'worst ever' devastation and is in need of aid to repair buildings and guarantee food supply.

Hurricanes Gustav and Ike which hit Cuba in  September  caused devastation on a massive scale throughout the country. Homes, transport, agriculture and power lines have been wiped out and emergency brigades have been sent to parts of the country decimated by the storms.

To donate to the Cuban relief fund send a cheque to Cuba Solidarity Campaign - c/o UNITE Woodberry, 218 Green Lanes, London, N4 2HB or donate with your credit card or from a paypal account  (note we are not a charity so gift aid not possible).  Thank you!

Information about the scale of the disaster - follow link.

The band Cajun Street Preachers will play - a rerun of previous popular events with raffle, stall, collection.

Dave Eatock, the band accordionist has written a song for the Miami/Cuban 5 and this will be played.  The Band's new CD - Things can Change will be on sale to contribute to the fund-raising effort too.

Manchester CSC Regular Monthly Meeting

first Monday of the Month, New Venue

Manchester CSC has a new home for its monthly meetings: The Unicorn Pub, Church Street.
Here is a link to a map
http://www.192.com/local/MANCHESTER/HOTEL/THE_UNICORN_HOTEL/X60435AA3D9514EA8BD9728976A0CCEFA

Meetings are at 7.30 on the First Monday of the month (unless its a public holiday, in which case the next day, Tuesday).  No August meeting.

All friends of the Cuban people and their revolution welcome.  We have a business meeting that lasts 60-90 minutes and then sometimes then have a drink and a chat.  Every other month or so we have a focussed discussion preceded by a talk or a film.

In September 2000 we decided to formally make direct links with a community in Matanzas province.
This is a good focus for building the Campaign locally, as well as being of direct benefit to the community.
