Ashfield Council to Privatise Housing ?

Ashfield Tenants were shocked to learn this week that the Council is looking at options to transfer the housing stock, despite the statement in Ashfield’s Labour Manifesto only 7 months ago that Labour wanted to keep its housing in the public sector. This was after tenants expressed their view quite clearly, prior to the election, that they wanted Council housing to stay as Council housing. They have been told it is because of the Council’s plans for Best Value.

Tenants know already what they think is best value and see the Council’s plans to employ so-called independent outside consultants for thousands of pounds, designed to lead to transfer proposals. Tenants will be leafleting estates warning tenants about the dangers of transfer, which they see as another name for privatisation.
