Stop ID cards!
The Home Office is currently holding a public consultation on its ID card proposals. Their estimate of the cost implementing these plans is £3 billion - at least. Independent estimates are double that amount. Do we seriously believe that the government can set up & run an identity database of 60 million people successfully? And keep it accurate, and keep our personal information secure? Think of the bureaucracy – having to inform the government everytime you moved house, for example (and if you failed to inform them, you would be facing a £1,000 fine, under the proposed legislation). Think of the hassle when you lose the card. Our privacy & civil liberties will be seriously compromised. Why should we put all this power & information into government hands? They are elected by us & are accountable to us, we are not their property to be tagged & monitored. Have your say:
