Phuket, Thailand - page four of four

Tracey and I had a winter holiday on the island of Phuket, Thailand, the first visit for both of us to the country. The pictures are a mix from both of us.

This is the fourth page of pictures and only covers a boat trip we had round a few islands, including the one where the island scenes were taken from the film The Man with the Golden Gun.

Monday 27th January 2014

Tracey and I decided to have another adventure day, so we went on our second island hopping tour. Leaving in the morning from Ao Po Pier near Phuket Town, we were taken on a slow boat to Panak Island.

Here we switched to canoes...

... and were taken by our guide Juan (oddly wearing a Chelsea shirt – I thought they were all Manchester United fans round here)...

... to a little beach...

... from where we entered a cave. Wading through water and ducking to avoid hanging rocks, we reached a place where we could stand and Juan pointed his torch upwards to bats hanging from the ceiling.

We carried on to where it opened up again, this time to the sky. We were in a lagoon at low tide.

Some of the lagoon bed was mud and we could see little walking fish scurrying along.

Time to stoop low again on the trip back to the canoe. Juan then rowed us to another cave, and this time we could sail straight in to another lagoon at low tide.

Again, jaw dropping scenery.

Juan took us from there back to the main boat...

...for lunch and on to Hong Island.

There were about forty of us on the trip, and when the canoes took us all to a little beach on Hong Island, we were the only ones on that beach.

Time for a little swimming and relaxing...

...before going back the big boat...

...and onto our final destination – Phang Nga, also known as James Bond Island as it was used for some of the filming in the 1973 film “The Man With the Golden Gun”.

Long tail boats were used to transfer us to the island...

...which, as you might expect, is a bit commercial with a lot of souvenir shops with over aggressive sales people. We took pictures with the famous tall rock from the film in the background.

Tracey came close to losing a flip-flop in the mud when she waded out towards the rock for a better picture.

And that was that, back to the hotel for a meal tired but happy.
